Session Structure
Children thrive on structure and knowing what each session looks like will provide more opportunities to be present and enjoy the activities as they know what is coming up.
1
Welcoming Activity
Children engage in activities while others arrive
2
Opening Circle
  • Greeting and emotion check in
  • Share anything feeling big in their brains to make space for today's learning
  • Outline the rest of the session
3
Story Time
Intentional books chosen to compliment the theme of the session
4
Activity
Charades, art, writing, etc. accompanying the core concept of the session
5
Play Based Learning
Loose guidelines on a goal to be met during play, while the coach makes observations out loud to draw child awareness to their behaviours and encourage self-regulation through play (E.g., "I see that you just shared that block, how did that feel?", "I see that sharing is tough right now, what do we need to be able to share that block? More time?")
6
Closing Circle
  • Shout out to someone in the group for something they did well (kids give these to one another, the coach will model it)
  • Take home message - what did we discover today? How can we bring that concept home?
7
Pick up & Child Sharing
Time will be allotted at the end of the session for the child to show parents what they did that day, with an occasional short activity the parent can take part in, led by the child
8
Follow up Email
After each session, an email will be shared with families outlining how the session went, how their child took part, and tips to use at home in line with the focus of the session
